Funding Instrument: Grant, a support mechanism providing money, property, or both to an eligible entity to carry out an approved project or activity.

Funds Available and Anticipated Number of Awards: The number of awards is contingent upon NIH appropriations and the submission of a sufficient number of meritorious applications.

Award Budget: Application budgets are limited to $50,000 in direct costs per year.

Award Project Period: The total project period may not exceed two years.

Funding Opportunity Purpose

The NIH Small Research Grant Program supports small research projects that can be carried out in a short period of time with limited resources. This program supports different types of projects including pilot and feasibility studies; secondary analysis of existing data; small, self-contained research projects; development of research methodology; and development of new research technology. This Funding Opportunity Announcement does not accept applications proposing clinical trial(s).
